Windshield Chip Repair

What causes windshield chips?
Windshield chips usually occur when small objects strike the glass while driving. Because windshields are made from laminated glass, the outer layer can chip without immediately shattering.
Common causes include:
• Rocks and gravel kicked up by other vehicles
• Highway debris
• Sudden temperature changes
• Construction zones
• Following trucks or vehicles carrying loose materials
Even a very small chip can spread into a long crack due to vibration, temperature changes, or normal driving.
Why chip repair is important
Repairing a chip early can prevent the need for a full windshield replacement.
Benefits of repairing a chip early:
• Prevents the crack from spreading
• Restores structural strength to the glass
• Maintains visibility and safety
• Costs much less than windshield replacement
• Takes only about 20 minutes
Most chips smaller than a quarter can be successfully repaired.
How our repair process works
Our windshield chip repair process is designed to restore the strength of the glass while preventing further damage.
Step 1 — Damage inspection
We examine the chip to determine if it can be safely repaired.
Step 2 — Cleaning the damaged area
Debris and air are removed from the damaged section of the glass.
Step 3 — Preparing the chip
In some cases, the impact point may need to be slightly opened using a small drill bit. This is a standard practice in windshield repair and allows the resin to properly penetrate the damaged area for a stronger repair.
Step 4 — Resin injection
A professional-grade resin is injected into the chip to fill the damaged area.
Step 5 — UV curing
The resin is hardened using ultraviolet light to bond with the glass.
Step 6 — Polishing
The repaired area is polished for improved clarity.
The primary goal of the repair is to restore structural strength and prevent the damage from spreading. While the appearance of the chip often improves, cosmetic clarity is not guaranteed and varies depending on the type, size, and age of the damage.
